Winner of the Alexander Gray Award 2017
On Tuesday 14th March 2017, Lucyna Lindsay, Ginette Gervais-MacWilliam represented the Perth Branch of the Franco-Scottish Society during a short ceremony at the Loch Leven Community Campus, for this year’s Alexander Gray Award.
Ben Hood received a cheque for £1,000 from Councillor Willie Robertson in front of his French teacher Paul Becher, the school’s principal Sarah Brown and his fellow students.
We were made to feel very welcome and it was a real pleasure to meet the staff and students at the school. We are especially grateful to Paul Becher, Ben’s French teacher who put forward the names of suitable candidates and in so doing established a link between the Perth Branch of the FSS and the school.
Armes, Amours, Alcools – l’Alliance franco-écossaise?
On Wednesday 8th March 2017, Tom Wight, vice president of the Franco-Scottish Society of Scotland gave a talk on the links between Scotland and France from the mythical alliance between Charlemagne and King Accaius in the 8th century to the effect of phylloxera on the whisky trade in the 19th century. French queen consorts and mutual military aid were also mentioned, not always to Scotland’s advantage! The convivial atmosphere and warm welcome extended by the Perth Branch of the Franco-Scottish Society were much appreciated.
