Monsieur Luc Degonville, Maire de Manicamp(Ainse) who was invited by the Franco-Scottish Society (Edinburgh Branch) to give a talk in Edinburgh, Perth and Inverness on the town of Manicamp, where the Scottish landscape gardener, Thomas Blaikie (1751-1858) lived and worked.  The Mayor of Manicamp has recently named a square in his town after the Scottish landscape gardener. In her biography of Thomas Blaikie, Patricia Taylor, refers to Thomas Blaikie as “the Capability Brown of France”

Monsieur Degonville was given a civic reception by the Provost of Perth before his talk to the Perth Branch of the Franco-Scottish Society.

Christmas Party at the Royal Perth Golf Club

Members of the Perth Branch of the Franco-Scottish Society met on Saturday 10th December for their Christmas dinner. The evening got off to a great start with 4 unaccompanied French Chansons, sung by Walter Perrie and his friend Lisa Lafferty-Monro. Walter and Lisa had clearly put in a lot of rehearsal time and as they sang we were able to follow the words in a handsome booklet of lyrics, made specially for the occasion.

The evening’s entertainment was followed by a very congenial dinner after which  we retired to the library for coffee and a rousing chorus of “Ma Normandie” and “La Marseillaise”.
After so much revolutionary fervour we all disbanded – a good time had by all.
