About the Talk (English)

Originally from Le Mans, Héloïse Le Moal moved to Scotland in 2016 to study Forestry at the University of the Highlands and Islands.

Last year, the Scottish Land Commission chose her as a winner of the 2020 National Student Award allowing her to carry out a research project. The Land Commission was established in 2017 by the Land Reform Act 2016 to advise the Scottish Government.

Her project was to carry out a comparative study between two different types of local woodlands: municipal forests on the continent and the unique system of community woodlands in Scotland.

Due to travel restrictions, she limited her travels and carried out the research in her two hometowns: Inverness and Le Mans.

Following her research on the ground, Héloïse produced this year a series of videos, a report, and a blog to publish her findings.

About the Talk (French)

Originaire du Mans, Héloïse Le Moal s’est installée en Ecosse en 2016 pour reprendre des études en gestion forestière à l’université des Highlands and Islands. L’année dernière, elle s’est vue accordée le National Student Award 2020 par la Scottish Land Commission pour développer un projet de recherche. La Land Commission a été créé en 2017, à la suite de l’adoption du Land Reform Act 2016, pour conseiller le Gouvernement Ecossais.

Son projet a consisté à faire une étude comparative entre deux types de forêts locales : les forêts municipales que l’on trouve sur le continent et les community woodlands , propres à l’Ecosse. Du fait des restrictions de déplacements en pleine pandémie, Héloïse a limité ses recherches à ses deux villes « d’origine »: Le Mans et Inverness. S’en est suivit la production cette année d’un rapport ainsi qu’une suite de trois vidéos.
