About the Talk (English)

Finding Proust Again

In 2021, the 150th anniversary year of Proust’s birth, the publisher Gallimard announced the release of a never-before published manuscript by the French author: the seventy-five pages.

These constitute the oldest draft of In search of lost time (Remembrance of things past), which for decades had been considered lost.

This moving manuscript not only lays the foundations for the main themes of Proust’s future novel, but also reveals a different Proust- an author still closer to the biographical first person from which he would gradually distance himself over the years.

In this illustrated lecture, Marion Schmid will revisit the life and work of Proust in the light of this long-lost manuscript.
